Add Alex Rodriguez to the list of players linked to steroids.
In 2003, A-Rod was tested for anabolic steroids and the results came back positive. He wasn’t the only one, according to SI, 104 players tested positive that year, why we just learning about it now is anyone’s guess.
A-Rod apparently tested positive on an anonymous test that was taken by the MLB to see if they needed to have random drug tests in the future. The purpose was to find out if there were enough cases to warrant more testing in the future, the 104 apparent positive tests seemed to be enough. A-Rod tested positive for a drug called Primobolan.
Per ESPN:
Primobolan, also known as methenolone, is an injected or orally administered drug. It improves strength and maintains lean muscle with minimal bulk development and few side effects. It is not an approved prescription drug in the United States. Testosterone can be taken legally with a prescription.
It’s really sad that you see a guy as talented as Rodriguez being publicised as one of the few guys in the sport who played the game fairly. He was a guy who came to mind when you thought of guys who produced off of their ability and hard work without the help of performance enhancing drugs.
Whether this is true or not, Rodriguez’s name will never be looked at the same, he will always have this cloud over his head and people just won’t look at his stat line the same. And that’s just sad. This is the guy on pace to break the home run record. This is the arguably one of the best, if not the best, hitter of this generation. It hurts me as a fan of sports in general to hear this.
Rangers Senior Adviser, John Hart had this to say on the situation,
“Obviously Alex probably is the best player in baseball. This has always been a special talent and the guy has been putting up Hall of Fame numbers since the day he showed up in the big leagues. It saddens me. I’ve been in the game for almost 40 years and it hurts a little bit, if in fact this is true.”
Nobody wins in these things, the truth comes out and the biggest loser is the integrity of the sport.
